Im 24, is it too late to invest?

Im not going to lie thinking about saving for the future is hard because you’re stuck wanting to live your life to the fullest and wanting to be responsible but we can’t ignore the fact that things are high as hell right now. Like why is a gallon of milk $6 and why am I paying endless money for gas in my little Honda (love him btw). But back to what im trying to get at I’ve been trying to find the balance between being a responsible adult even though I still feel like an irresponsible teen trying to figure out what to do with her life while also not taking things to seriously because everything including myself can be gone tomorrow. So I found my own little balance that I’d like to share with you all. It’s nothing major because I can’t invest endless money based on my salary but something is ALWAYS better than nothing.

So here’s what you’re going to do. But before you start I will warn you this is not one of those accounts where you can just pull money out anytime and dip into it. Save that for your regular savings account lol it happens to the best of us.

Open up a Vanguard account specifically a brokerage account and transfer funds into the account from your bank so you have some money to invest with. (Honestly do whatever you can even if it’s just $5 per fund the minimum is $1)

Specifics straight from the phone app:

1. Click transact
2. Under “Buy and Sell” click ETFs and Stocks”
3. Now select the account you just opened and under symbol your going to type in the 3 Letter name that’s in parenthesis for whichever stock your buying first (Ex. VOO)
4. Scroll down and under transaction select “Buy” the under amount type select “Dollars” because one share is easily $700 and Idk about you but I don’t have that
5. Then enter the amount of money you want to invest and then just click review and then confirm.

You are going to invest into the following Index funds which in simple terms are stocks that are a combination of companies usually the top ones like Google and Amazon which I personally find a little more comforting than investing in single companies.

Vanguard S&P 500 Index ETF (VOO)
Vanguard total stock market ETF (VTI)
Vanguard total intl stock index ETF (VXUS)

OK YAYYYYY! You just invested now whenever you have some money to spare just buy some more. I recommend you don’t keep checking it because it’ll go up and down plus it takes time to see why it’s worth it but once you keep putting money into it and seeing the return you’ll feel good.

It’s a step into becoming a responsible adult and if no one says it Im proud of you :)
